How to play?

Totemancer is a turn-based PvP strategy board game where you place Totems, capture land, chain bonus turns, and outsmart your opponent on a tactical grid.

1. Place your Totems

Each turn, you place one Totem on an empty tile. You cannot place a Totem on obstacles, on another Totem, or inside already captured land.

Every placement should help you build territory, block your opponent, or prepare a future scoring move.

2. Capture land

Land is captured when empty tiles are fully surrounded by your Totems on the four main sides: up, down, left, and right.

Map borders do not count as walls, so you must close the shape with your own Totems. The player who places the final connecting Totem captures the land immediately.

3. Chain bonus turns

When your move increases your score by capturing land, you get another turn. This is one of the most important mechanics in Totemancer.

Strong players do not only look for one capture — they prepare sequences where one captured area leads into the next.

4. Use Burst wisely

Each player starts with 2 Burst abilities per game. Burst can only be used when placing a Totem.

Burst destroys opponent Totems and obstacles in the 8 surrounding tiles, opening space, breaking enemy plans, or stopping a dangerous capture.

Do not waste Burst on small moves. Save it for moments that can change the match.

5. Win the match

The game ends when the board is full, when a player surrenders, or when a player is disqualified after repeated skips.

The player with more captured land wins. If both players have the same score, the match ends in a draw.

6. Progress after matches

Playing matches helps you earn XP, Mana, chests, quests progress, and collection rewards. You can use Mana for Totem upgrades, cosmetics, Pets, and other progression features.

Beginner tips

  • Think in shapes, not single tiles. Secure areas that are hard to break.
  • Watch for bonus turns. A good chain can decide the whole match.
  • Save Burst for real threats. Use it to stop big captures or open a winning path.
  • Do not rely on borders. Land must be surrounded by Totems on all four sides.
  • Look at the whole board. The opponent’s strongest move may be far from their last placement.
