How does rating work?

Your rating in Totemancer reflects your skill level and helps match you with opponents of similar abilities. We use a system called Glicko-2, which ensures that your rating is accurate and fair. Here's how it works in simple terms:

  1. Starting Rating: When you first begin playing Totemancer, you’ll start with a base rating of 1500. As you play more games, your rating will begin to reflect your true skill level.
  2. Playing Matches: Each time you play a match, your rating can go up or down based on the outcome. Winning a match typically increases your rating, while losing a match can decrease it.
  3. Opponent’s Rating: The change in your rating depends on your opponent's rating. Beating a higher-rated player can give you a bigger boost, while losing to a lower-rated player can cause a larger drop.
  4. Consistency and Uncertainty: The Glicko-2 system also considers how consistently you play. If you play regularly, your rating will adjust more accurately. If you take long breaks, the system assumes your skill level might have changed, making adjustments more significant when you return.
  5. Climbing the Leaderboard: To climb the leaderboard, aim to win matches against strong opponents. The more you play and win, the higher your rating will go, helping you reach the top ranks.
