The First 10 Games Plan

Your First 10 Games in Totemancer

The first matches in Totemancer are not only about winning. They are about building the right habits: reading territory, spotting bonus turns, saving Burst for important moments, and learning how the board changes after every move.

Use your first 10 games as a simple learning path.

Game 1–2: Understand Land Capture

Start by learning how territory works. Land is captured when empty tiles are surrounded by your Totems on the four main sides: up, down, left, and right.

  • Try to close one small, solid area.
  • Do not chase random single tiles.
  • Remember: map borders do not count as walls.
  • Watch which Totem placement completes the capture.

Game 3–4: Watch Bonus Turns

When your move increases your score, you get another turn. This is one of the most important mechanics in Totemancer.

  • Notice when capturing land gives you another move.
  • Try to prepare one simple bonus-turn chain.
  • Look for moves that can score now and prepare another score next.
  • Do not worry about perfect play yet.

Game 5–6: Learn Burst Discipline

Burst is powerful, but wasting it early can lose the match. Use Burst only when it changes the board in a meaningful way.

  • Use Burst to stop a big enemy capture.
  • Use Burst to break a key enemy structure.
  • Use Burst to open a path for your own scoring chain.
  • Avoid using Burst just to remove one low-value Totem.

Game 7–8: Read the Whole Board

Beginners often stare only at the last move. Stronger players scan the full board and look for the most dangerous area.

  • Find your opponent’s biggest threat.
  • Check which area is closest to being captured.
  • Look for weak shapes that can be broken.
  • Choose moves that affect more than one zone when possible.

Game 9–10: Start Playing to Win

Now begin combining everything: land capture, bonus turns, Burst timing, and opponent reading.

  • Build territory, but keep it safe.
  • Look for bonus-turn chains before placing.
  • Save Burst for the moment that matters most.
  • Adapt to your opponent’s style.

After Each Match

Ask yourself three simple questions:

  1. Where did I miss a bonus turn?
  2. Was my Burst useful or wasted?
  3. Which territory was unsafe?

You do not need to analyze every move. One clear lesson after each match is enough to improve quickly.

Final Tip

In your first 10 games, do not try to learn everything at once. First understand capture, then bonus turns, then Burst. Once those three systems make sense, Totemancer becomes much easier to read.
