Getting Started with Totemancer
Welcome to Totemancer
Totemancer is a turn-based PvP strategy board game playable in your browser and on Telegram. This page answers the most common beginner questions and helps you start your first matches with confidence.
What Is Totemancer?
Totemancer is a strategy game where players place Totems on a grid, capture land, chain bonus turns, use Burst abilities, collect Totems, complete quests, open chests, and compete in clans.
The core match is skill-based: you win by reading the board, placing Totems carefully, and securing more land than your opponent.
How Do I Score?
You score by capturing land. Land is captured when empty tiles are fully surrounded by your Totems on the four main sides: up, down, left, and right.
- Each captured tile gives 1 point.
- If your move increases your score, you get a bonus turn.
- Bonus turns can chain if each move captures more land.
- Map borders do not count as walls for capturing land.
What Is Burst?
Burst is a tactical ability that can be used when placing a Totem. It affects the 8 surrounding tiles and can destroy opponent Totems or obstacles.
Burst is useful for breaking enemy plans, stopping dangerous captures, opening paths, or creating comeback moments. Do not waste it on small moves.
How Long Are Matches?
Each turn lasts 30 seconds. Most matches are designed to be short enough for mobile play, while still giving enough time to think and make strategic decisions.
Is Totemancer Pay-to-Win?
No. Totemancer is designed around skill-based PvP. The match is decided by Totem placement, land capture, bonus-turn chains, Burst timing, and board reading.
Totemancer does include progression systems such as Mana, Totems, Pets, chests, quests, upgrades, and cosmetics. These create long-term goals, but they do not replace strategy during the actual match.
How Does Matchmaking Work?
Totemancer uses matchmaking to help players find opponents. Some modes are designed for fairer balanced matches, while competitive modes may create tougher battles.
You can also invite a friend directly if you want to practice, teach someone, or play a private duel.
First Steps for Beginners
- Focus on one solid area. Do not chase random single tiles.
- Watch for bonus turns. Capturing land gives another move.
- Save Burst for important moments. Use it to stop big threats or open a winning path.
- Think in shapes. Strong territory is compact and hard to break.
- Look at the whole board. The best move is not always near the last Totem placed.

Final Tip
Do not worry about mastering everything immediately. Start by learning how land capture works, then focus on bonus turns, then Burst timing. After a few matches, the board will start to make much more sense.
